In 2006, I decided to attend Rivertown School of Beauty to work towards becoming a Master Barber. In 2007, I graduated and obtained my Master Barber license. I started my career at OJ’s Barber Shop for two years under Ms. Olivia Jordan. This shop is where I learned my work ethic for the barber industry. I then worked for one year at G-Styles under Mario Gardner. I learned a lot of traditional barbering skills during my time there.
My last stop was Diamond Kutz, where I worked under Edward Powell and Vernon Jackson. In the eight years of working at Diamond Kutz, I started to understand the freedom of entrepreneurship in the hair industry. The experience of working in these great establishments help me to visualize the future hair environment/industry I wanted to be a part of personally.
Building what I have now has been challenging as expected but also rewarding. Having a great team that respects your vision is essential. It would help if you surrounded yourself with like-minded individuals. There were times when I wanted to give up and throw in the towel, but my desire to be successful in this area would not allow me. I hope that my story will encourage and motivate others who want to step out on faith with any career they desire. Trust your work ethics and add your touch. No one will go harder for you than you.
